I have had this thimble since the early 80's and can't for the life of me use any other. It is unusual in that it worn on the left hand underneath the quilt and stops the needle as you load the stitches It is the only one that I have and I am scared to death that it will break. I am hoping that one of the Quiltville followers will have seen this thimble and let me know where to find a new one.

That is a neat thimble. Sorry, but I've not seen anything like it before. Best of luck in your search.

Check antique stores. The open top thimbles are called tailor's thimbles. Many are made of silver or even gold.

Oh, that is a neat one! I hope someone can tell you where to get another one! I think it's the most unusual one I've seen yet!

I still haven't found another thimble but did google "tailors thimble". Guess what, it is an Irish folk Band! Didn't help but interesting.

I've never seen a thimble like that. What do you use on your right hand atop the quilt to push the needle through? I usually don't have too much trouble with my left hand ... although I've gotten into the habit of using my right thumb to "stop" the needle when it's coming through the top while I'm loading the needle ... what a callous that causes! And speaking of, I'm getting ready to start quilting a blue and white Irish chain that I just basted this morning ... hand quilting is my favorite part of quilting! ;-)
